Contiinuum

“A coherent whole, characterized as a collection, sequence or progression of values or elements varying in minute degrees” ~ Webster Dictionary

“A human being is part of a whole, called by us “Universe”, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest – a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us.”
~ Albert Einstein

The concept of the continuum is of great significance: it refers to a source of creative intelligence that unites us all as individuals. For the healing practitioner and patient, the continuum is the source of therapeutic transformation.

Through stillness and perceptive awareness, a practitioner facilitates a patient’s orientation to the continuum.

“Be still and know”
~ Dr William Garner Sutherland DO
(Founder of Osteopathy in the Cranial Field)

The continuum arises from of the stillness that exists in the natural world; one’s own natural state.

"Quiet the ongoing mental restlessness and turn the mind within.... Then you will see the underlying harmony in your life and in all nature"
~ Paramahansa Yogananda

“All that is requires to realise the Self is to Be Still”.
~ Ramana Maharshi

In our essence we are all unified in the continuum, with no concept of separation.

“Pleasure and pain are only aspects of the mind. Our essential nature is happiness.” ~ Ramana Maharshi

The embryological forces of development which originally created us, are the same generative forces that heal. These forces remain active throughout life. Becoming aware of the continuum (and so recognising one's separation from it) ignites a therapeutic potential within. When the road becomes clear, finding the way home becomes effortless.

"When you see clearly the problem is solved"
~ Krishnamurti

"Act without doing; work without effort" ~ Tao te Ching

Various life events and trauma result in a false sense of separation, subsequent ignorance, physical restriction and a misidentification with false perception. We progressively forget the truth of our self. Dis-ease is the physiological result of not resting in our essential nature.

“Truth is by its nature self evident. As soon as you remove the cobwebs of ignorance that surround it, it shines clear” ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Given an orientation to the continuum, a patient’s self-healing and self-regulating mechanisms naturally move towards health. A transmutation reveals one's natural state of health and happiness.

“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” ~ World Health Organization

When oriented to the continuum, synchronicity is restored; whereby life itself and a patient’s body become the teacher and healer.

"I am open to the guidence of synchronicity, and do not let expectations hinder my path" ~ Dalai Lama

"All things appear and disappear because of the concurrence of causes and conditions. Nothing ever exists entirely alone; everything is in relation to everything else” ~ Buddha

"All things are linked together through cause and effect. There is no such thing as an accident"
~Swami Prajnanpad

There is no such thing as an accident when one is guided by the continuum. There are instead opportunities to unearth and free patterns which limit us.

“Advance, and never halt, for advancing is perfection. Advance and do not fear the thorns in the path, for they draw only corrupt blood”. ~ Kahlil Gibran

Likewise, pain and suffering are simple reminders of the separation from one’s essential nature.

“Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding” ~ Kahlil Gibran

During a treatment process, opportunities for significant and meaningful change will arise when a patient’s inner resources are sufficient to accommodate them.

“Healing in a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity”. ~ Hippocrates

Changes worth having are the ones worth waiting for.

“How poor are they that have no patience. What wound did ever heal but by degrees” ~ William Shakespeare

“Patience is the companion of wisdom”
~ Saint Augustine

"The greatest prayer is patience" ~ Buddha

Therapeutic changes which arise from one's own depths cannot often be explained. To allow such changes to arise, requires an inner willingness to dismiss the mind's need for control and certainty.

"Faith is an oasis of the heart which can never be reached by the caravan of thinking"
~ Kahlil Gibran

"In truth, all things are inexpressible, empty, calm and pure" ~ Nagarjuna

"When you are free from all attachments, when you are indifferent to success and failure, then you experience inner serenity" ~ The Bhagavad Gita
